Flower Pot of Gold

So, this is not my original idea.  I was just 'googling', pots of gold for St. Patrick's Day and came across a picture of this craft, so I decided to give it a go.  This is how we made ours...

Supplies:
Small terracotta flower pots (24 cents at Walmart!!)
Rainbow pipe cleaners
black paint
black chalkboard paint (optional)
Rolos candy

We started by painting the pots black, on the inside and the outside.  I used Ceramacoat paint, but I think any acrylic paint would work.  My girls LOVE to paint, so this was the most fun part for them.

Next we cut the pipe cleaners in half.  We used...red, orange, yellow, green and blue.  But, you could use more or less colors, your choice!  MK was wearing her "leprechaun" pajamas (aka elf pajamas).

Once cut, I laid them together in order....

Then I twisted one end together....
Then bend them around to form a rainbow....
And twist the other end together.  Note: The other end will have some pipe cleaners shorter than the others, I just wrapped the longest one around the others to hold everything together.

Now, put a dab of hot glue on one side of the pot and glue down one end of the rainbow.  You could also use tacky glue if doing this part with children, but I just used hot glue to make it faster.

Repeat on the other side.

Once I had all the rainbows on, I went back over the outside with two coats of chalkboard paint.  This is optional, but I thought it would be cute to write names on the pots for gifts.

Then just filled the pots with 'gold' candy, we used Rolos.
