Simple Child's Stool

I made the girls each a stool for their bathroom.  Sometimes people are intimidated by painting furniture, so I tried to break it down to simple easy steps that really anyone could do.

Start with a stool....

Base coat it with acrylic paint, just a couple coats will usually do.

Using chalk, trace around a bowl to make a head.

Paint the head and add a neck.

Then use two smaller circles to draw on two eyes and two cheeks.

Add a mouth, eye balls and nose.

After discussing with the girls, they both decided they wanted me to paint their hair down.  This is probably the hardest part of this entire design.  Start by drawing in where the hair will be with chalk.

My girls hair is dirty blonde, so I started by painting all the hair light brown.

This one is MK, her hair is wavy, so I sorta 'squiggled' the paint as I was painting the hair on.  While the light brown is still wet, I had some squiggles of dark brown.

Last, while the paint was still wet, I added some squiggles of yellow.

Here's B's hair.  I used the same method, only did straight lines of paint.

Finally, I added a bow, pearl necklace and their name.

Once they were dry, I clear coated them with a few coats.

Since these were going in their bathroom, I did a few extra coats of clear.
