Pumpkin Nameplates

I purchase a few real gourd pumpkins before Halloween this year and after the holiday, I was trying to think of something else to use them for.  I came up with the idea of making them into chalkboard nameplates for the table.

Black and white acrylic paint
Chalkboard paint

If you are buying gourds, try to pick some that are more flat and not too bumpy.  I find chalkboard paint a little thin, so I first painted a layer of black acrylic paint in a rectangle.

Once it dried, I did 3 coats of chalkboard paint.  It was a sunny day, so I would set the pumpkins outside for about 10 minutes to dry between layers.

Once the black was dry, I painted some decorative details on with the white paint.

Once the black paint was good and dry (I suggest letting it dry overnight), B wrote their names on each pumpkin.

Then we sat them out in front of their turkey place mats.

We don't have a big sit down Thanksgiving dinner at our house, but if we did, I think this would be such a cute idea for the guests.  Then they could take their pumpkin home at the end of the night!
