Wine Cork Letter

A few months ago, I made this wine cork wreath.  I've been thinking about some other ideas for wine corks and when I saw these big letters in JoAnne's, I thought that would be pretty cool to use.  I have used these letters before and they worked really well for other projects.  So, I picked up a giant 'M'.

Since it was already brown, I didn't think I needed to paint it.  So, I just set to hot gluing the corks on.  This time I sliced some of the corks to make it more interesting.  I found the best method was to use a wood cutting board and a serrated knife.  Wiggle the knife a little ways down then just push.  The knife will slide right through.  It's important to wear protective gloves so as not to cut yourself.

As you can see, I started by covering the front of the letter.

For the middle, I had to cut corks in half length-wise, so they would fit.

When you split a cork length-wise, you can see where the corkscrew went down it, it's pretty cool.

Here is one of the sides...

I just continued to glue the corks on until the entire letter was covered.  It took A LOT of corks, I think I ran out 3 times!  I just kept ordering boxes from Ebay.

Not sure where I will put this yet, but I think it turned out really cool!!

Check me out over at Two Sasters blog, I got featured this week!! Woohoo!!

  1. This is a really cool idea. I never keep my corks, but maybe I will have to start.
